How, why and when did you get into salsa?
Just over 2 years ago - I heard there was a new salsa class starting in Lichfield (turned out to be Norman “Sizzla” Blake !) - I was hooked from my first lesson!
Who first taught you to dance salsa?
Only the best! Norman “Sizzla” Blake.
Did you have any dance training prior to salsa?
Like most kids - I did tap, ballet etc……and plenty of clubbing in my 20’s!
Tell me a little about RoTate UK. When, and how was it set up?
Stumbled into it really! Ordered a few pairs for myself & friends because they were cheap - loved them - found the quality was good too.
Got chatting to the supplier who happened to be looking for a UK distributor. 1 year on I have my own exclusive collection and I’m working on the next one!
Where/why did you get the inspiration to set up RoTate UK?
Just can’t let an opportunity pass me by.
What problems have you come across in setting up RoTate UK?
None really…..not enough time…….never enough space…….got shoes all over my house!!
Who do you admire?
Ghandi & Bob Geldof (not only for Live Aid - but for taking on Paula’s kids).
What are your all time favourite tracks?
Three Times a Lady - Harlem Shuffle - Almas - Still
What was the last CD you bought?
Best Disco in Town.
What music is in your car/cd player at the moment?
Old Soul & Motown - Luther Vandross, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross….. Oh & a bit of Salsa (for on the way home from the Wharf !!!)
If you had not set up RoTate UK, what would you be doing instead? Or if you also have a full-time job, what do you do?
Well I now have 3 jobs!!!
I work at a school for kids with special needs (which I love, but the pay is rubbish!)
I have had my own business, a nursery equipment shop, which I built up from scratch, for the past 17 years…
…..and now RoTate!….
Oh & a bit of property development in between !
Never a dull moment.
Tell me something most people wouldn’t know about you?
I was agoraphobic for 10 years after suffering post natal depression after my first baby - I could barely leave the house - Catching up now though !!!
What’s your all time favourite salsa club/event that you have danced at?
It’s got to be the Wharf in Walsall on Wednesday nights - would have to break a leg to miss the Wharf!
What has been your most memorable moment?
So many….so little time.
Have you had any embarrassing/nightmare-ish moments in salsa?
Not that I can remember! Watch this space!
How many pairs of dance shoes do you own personally?
Don’t ask ….Lost count!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yes, Salsa has completely changed my life…..I’m more confident… fitter and I’ve met soooo many lovely people….but you all knew that, didn’t you!
